Suburban Publisher Gives Team Guidance

Sure, the Bears' defense is as tough as they come. And the offense has
been shining.
But CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports that the Bears may have even more
muscle in the form of a motivational book.
The Bears' Super Bowl drive has been powered by a secret weapon, and
simple lesson that’s all spelled out in a motivational book from a
west suburban publishing house.
The book is called “212 The Extra Degree.”
“There's that one extra degree of effort that makes the difference
between good and great so many times,” said Mac Anderson, the book’s
co-author and publisher. Anderson is also the founder of Simple
Truths, a Naperville publisher of motivational books.
The book, and a companion DVD movie, sets out the premise -- at 211
degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. With boiling comes
steam. And steam can power a locomotive.
Or a football team.
“That extra degree is all you really need,” Bears defensive back
Charles Tillman said. “That extra degree is so much more powerful and
you can apply it as a reporter, cameraman, football player, Christian,
reverend, priest.”
Tillman got the book from insurance executive and former NFL player
John l. Wright.
“He said, ’Can I get some more of these?’” Wright said. “I think he
gave them to all the [defensive backs] and [Defensive Coordinator Ron]
Rivera loved them.”
But when the Bears struggled to finish the regular season, Wright
suggested that every Bear read the book. Anderson provided them, and
the results speak for themselves.
“Their last playoff game was an example of them moving the extra
degree,” Wright said. “And all the Bears' fandom saw it.”
Rivera also made up "212 The Extra Degree" t-shirts for his defensive
players.
“I'm so happy about their success this year and I'm just honored to
play a small part in it,” Anderson said.
Wright predicts a Bears victory in the Super Bowl, but only if they
play at what he calls the “212 Level.”
